Charities at Glastonbury

So UnLtd is here at Glastonbury searching for social entreprenuers, but I thought I would share with you what some of the other charities here are doing to get their message across. WaterAid has staff dressed as a giant turds to promote water sanitation across the globe, Shelter sponsors the air guitar contest on the John Peel stage, Greenpeace hosts ethical speed dating and RNID keeps you supplied with ear plugs so you don't blast your ear drums during Shakin Stevens. Well, that's it from us today, after a long day of pitches we can't think of a better way to unwind than to take in a bit of Jay-Z on the Pyramid Stage, lets go see what all the fuss is about.

Over and Out

Glasto is not a beauty contest - it's practicality with a funky twist

Yes folks, it's true. Glasto fashion is still the same - muddy wellies, knee high socks and some kind of floral dress with a sweater and scarf for ladies. For men, the fashion du jour is jeans, optional bare torso or t-shirt of some sort. However, the Unltd trained fashion eye is campaigning for a more practical approach to the festival - waterproof gear and sensible clothing is indeed what you should be wearing, teamed with a hat and sunscreen.

As for music, the Stumeister was happily bopping away to Ozomanli yesterday while I'm so excited I can almost not contain myself to see Hot Chip ce soir. To keep up the Scando feel and support fellow Nordic nations, I'll be dancing along to Alphabeat in a mo. Fascination indeed!

Last but not least, a cliffhanger for you all. There might just be a crazy manic bird flying around on these pages later on todady or tomorrow.

U.

We'll live and die in these towns..

Well the music has begun! Yesterday managed to catch "next big thing" Glasvegas - who i thought were quite good until i saw the Enemy...they were incredible - the best new British band - they have one thing that the arctic monkeys dont (and ill saw this as a fully fledged AM fan) charisma...

We're all a bit worn out today had many pitches and we're excited about Jay-Z. The gaRDEN is holding up nicely as are we (just about)... we may have eaten too many Nachos...oh and my boots are now silver ;)

Do you want a bag?

Uh uh, it has just started raining, again! Yesterday evening the infamous rain arrived and with that the mud. The fields are now sliding hazards and we're sheltering in our gazebo to keep dry. Stu thinks that having Jess busting some Billie Jean moves might attract more people, but with the rain pouring down, it might be our outreach strategy for tomorrow.

Already had four pitches today and the idea garden is coming along nicely. 2.5 hours until we'll be rocking to music!

All Quiet On the Western Front

UnLtd's Glastonbury Team had a very successful day! We had some excellent pitches at the stall ranging from railway gardens to thermal imagining for carbon neutral homes! Winners are yet to be decided.
Following a long day of pitches, podcasts, and pants for poverty we headed to the silent disco! It's been a slice. Stay tuned.

Nervous Times

The marquee is up and we're nervous as the wind is causing havoc. Ulrika has stepped in as support rope and Jess is on a gaffer tape frenzy. You would have thought we would have learnt our lessons last year, but the words 'false' and 'economy' are being used to describe the fact we bought our resources from e-bay.

Nicola - where's that extra wood? - We may just need it.

wish us luck.

love from a windy Glastonbury

We're making good time...

Well we're here!! We arrived!! YEY!!! After being picked up at the ungodly hour of 5am, we sped our way over to Glastonbury, making ridiculously good time and arriving at around 11ish!! Glasto on the first day, with no people and tents is incredibly beautiful and peaceful...The hard workers we are, we set to constructing the UnLtd stand immediately - after a couple of hours graft the stand was up and running, and we retreated to set up UnLtd HQ aka our tents... At the far end of the Green Futures site is where our humble abode for the next 7 days now resides...

Soon enough it was time to crack open the first (of many) beer and go for a trek around the site - going through the Jazz stage to check out the Pyrmaid Stage in an eery silence...still up construction. Soon it was lunch time, and we continued to wander round Glastonbury before heading back to our tents for more beers and chillaxing...

Our evening was spent chillin in the sacred space with quite a few revellers, watching the sun set..thinking about the days ahead...We're all really excited about the next week and the type of people we can get to pitch - the Green Futures Site is full of weird, wacky and wonderful projects..all with UnLtd potential...

Til later!
Nic

Meet the team!

Thought it might be a good idea to introduce you to the UnLtd Glastonbury team! We'll be manning the UnLtd stand in the Green Futures site....chilling in the UnLtd garden...

Jessica Nugent
Jessica has been working at UnLtd for the past 4 years. She is a Development Manager supporting Award Winners in the New Cross Gate area, as well as many of our Level 0 Award Winners. Jessica went to Glastonbury with UnLtd last year, and didn't get much sleep (!)

Ulrika Hogberg
Ulrika is a Development Manager at UnLtd's London office. When not supporting social entrepreneurs, Ulrika spends some of her time writing about London life and current affairs for Sweden's biggest regional newspaper. She's mad keen on Eurovision and it's outrageousness. It's her first time at Glastonbury and she's going to live it to the max.

Stuart Thomason
Stuart is the Head of Region for London, the South and the East at UnLtd. This involves working closely with our Development Managers and UnLtd's partners. He was also part of the team that went to Glastonbury last year, and is keen to build the UnLtd garden this year!

and finally me.....

Nicola Jones
I am the Communications Assistant at UnLtd and the Community Manager of UnLtd's online community UnLtdWorld. I design marketing materials, update the UnLtd websites and help get UnLtd's message out to the world! After dreaming about going to Glastonbury for about the past 20yrs, I'm very excited about getting there, seeing Elbow and representing UnLtd in the Green Futures site - oh, and the mud!

So that's us! Come by - say hello! You'll be hearing a lot more from us...

Nic

14 days to go

Yes, that's right - 14 days to go until UnLtd hits Glasto with big ideas and cool people. To get everything ready we have a master list of what to bring, what not to bing and a special wish for lovely sunny weather. Come and see us in the green field if you happen to be around.
